This site is maintained by the U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance. Text of the rules from the Federal Register, contact information and more make this an indispensable site for DOT-subject employers.

DOL's pages include statistics, laws, news releases and general information on the top labor-related issues of the day. The department has launched the America's Job Bank initiative, one of the largest job databases on the Net.

Kudos to the BLS for including a keyword search function that makes it easy to find information. Important data for anyone setting salaries or tracking benefit trends.

Besides key regulations, the site includes free software such as the Asbestos Advisor and the Confined Spaces Advisor.

At last, an easy way to get answers to employees' retirement questions.
- Fidelity Investment's Workplace Savings home page.

Most valuable features of this site, presented by the Research Institute of America, are its news updates, best practices library and bulletin boards. Registration is required, but the site is free. s available -- and recommended.

Successor to HR Headquarters, this service includes articles from Workforce and Personnel Journal, as well as interactive bulletin boards.
- The Riley Guide.
There are many recruiting and resume database services on the Web. Leaders include Career Mosaic, Espan, Monster Board and Online Career Center. But, there are literally hundreds of services, each with its own strength. Who can keep track of all of the job Internet resources? Apparently, Ms. Riley can. The starting place when exploring looking to fill a job--or land in a new position yourself.
- CareerPath.
CareerPath places want ads from several major metropolitan dailies (NY Times, LA Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, etc.) in a searchable database. Great for researching salary trends and skill requirements. Also great for looking for work!
- The Training.Net
Reports and interactive bulletin boards focusing on training issues. A free service sends the latest press releases on training to your e-mailbox.
- Job Smart's Salary Surveys.
More than anything else, people write to us asking where they can find salary information on the Internet. Because salary surveys are expensive to compile, the free resources are limited. However, the Bay Area Library in Oakland has managed to find hundreds of salary studies online and provides links to them from its site.

The original "cool" HR-related site. Statistics provided by Center for Mobility Resources allow users to compare cost-of-living expenses for hundreds of cities across the country. It's a valuable tool for drawing up salary ranges and recruiting employees to small cities.
